07NOV17 – You ROCK!!

Thanks again to all the Rock Stars – and others – who came out to last week’s Halloween Party!! The costumes were SO MUCH FUN, and even if you didn’t dress up, I hope you enjoyed the uninhibited joy that seemed to animate the dancing, conversations, picture-taking – and the Soul Train 😊   More photos to follow, on the TOWestCoast Facebook Page.

The next *two* Tuesdays will be kind of a big deal, too.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14th – 10th Annual Benefit Dance for CAMH
In the ten years Toronto’s West Coast Swing community has generously supported the Centre for Addiction and Mental I feel there’s been a shift – to greater awareness.  Sadly, some that awareness comes from stories in the news about the unofficial injection site in Moss Park, or a mental health expert being appointed to the Toronto Police Services Board.  Also in the news this Canada150 year are reminders of our shameful history with this land’s indigenous peoples. I made a personal choice this year to direct our funds to CAMH’s Aboriginal Service.  Quoting from their website:

“The Aboriginal Service provides outpatient groups and individual counselling to Aboriginal people experiencing substance use and mental health issues, as well as support to clients who are in CAMH inpatient programs. The treatment team includes Aboriginal Social Workers, Occupational Therapist and an Elder/Traditional healer, as well as access to psychiatry.  The Aboriginal Service blends therapeutic and psycho-educational groups with cultural programming and ceremonies as part of a holistic approach to care.  In addition to other ceremonies, CAMH has an onsite Sweat Lodge which can be utilized as part of a client’s treatment plan.”

Online donations can be made here: (You will receive an official tax receipt and be added to our VIP list for the dance)

On the night of Tuesday, November 14th classes will run as usual, Raffle Tickets will be on sale (please bring cash!) and there will be fun Jack & Jill Tournament – limited to just 16 Leaders and 16 Followers, with fabulous Grand Prizes.  See the Facebook Event Page for more details, the calendar, or please call or email me if you have any questions!!
