JUN23 – O Canada!

Red, White & Bluesy – Tuesday, June 30th
We’re celebrating the night-before-Canada-Day by slipping into some red and white and home-grown Blues, R&B, rock and pop *next* week. Classes as usual 6:30-9:00 p.m. – these will be the *last* in the current series, and the last regular HD and Repertoire classes until the end of August. (See Flash Mob class/rehearsal details below)
Oh, and because the next day is a holiday we may extend the social dancing a little later than usual. Facebook Event

Our Home and Native Land…
We have two really cool dance events coming up in October – no passport required, no US$ exchange rate to deal with – that you should be planning for *NOW*:

  • Vision Dance Encounter – here in Toronto, October 2-4
A unique combination of West Coast Swing and Brazilian Zouk in support of the Canadian National Institute of the Blind (CNIB), with a theatrical/dance production featuring blind and vision-impaired dancers. Best of all, Jordan Frisbee and Tatiana Mollman will be here teaching workshops, as well as Maxence and Virginie.  Tickets available now!
  • Montreal Westie Fest – October 16-18
…at the recently-renovated Holiday Inn Pointe-Claire. Get in the car, fly or take the train (shuttles available from the airport and Dorval train station) for this “pure” West Coast Swing event. Levelled workshops with Ben and Cameo, “The Whites”, John and Alyssa and others. World Swing Dance Council Jack and Jill competitions, as well as Strictly Swing and Pro-Am and a Pro-Show you’re going to want front row seating to see. Hence, Joanna Swanson is arranging Premium table seating. Facebook Event Official website:

True Patriot Love

  • Swingcouver – January 22-25, 2016
For a true “West Coast on the West Coast” experience in the heart of downtown Vancouver in beautiful British Columbia, this fun, laid-back event offers small, levelled workshops, an astonishingly high level of dancing and tons of Pro-pizazz.
  • Toronto Open Swing Hustle Championships – July 14-17, 2016
A new-and-improved TOSHC will be back the Sheraton Airport next summer, with Deborah Szekely taking over as Event Director, a new line-up of Pros and a refined focus on West Coast Swing and Hustle
  • Wait – there’s more!
I’m not at liberty to share the details – yet – but an exciting “new” WCS event is coming to Vancouver next summer, 2016.  Divas – take note!

Toronto ROCKS! the International WCS Flash Mob – September 5th
Showing our civic pride, Toronto will take its place amongst the global West Coast Swing community by taking part in an international project: learning and performing a set piece of choreography in a public place on the same day as other wcs communities around the world. Toronto will ROCK the Flash Mob in the Riverdale East Park near Broadview and Danforth, around the corner from Joy of Dance. We’re aiming for noon on Saturday, September 5th. Facebook Event.

You’re welcome learn the choreography on your own* and just show up at the park (with a partner), or join in the preparations with scheduled classes/rehearsals
